Corn Maze

Fall brings cooler temperatures, an array of colorful leaves, and many fun activities that are unique to the season. As people who enjoy eating fresh produce, my wife and I like to visit an orchard every Fall to handpick some apples. Depending on how we feel, we may go there just to walk through the trees, enjoying the sights and smells without buying anything. Many of the locations that we visit also have their own bakery, so they produce fresh, apple pastries that are a great way to top off the day.

Since we’re from the midwest, Fall just wouldn’t be the same without walking through a corn maze as well. It provides a nice change of pace from our usual routines, and the maze portion really tests our memories (and patience!) as we try to navigate through it. My wife has a good spatial memory, but she’s directionally challenged, and I happen to be the complete opposite. It’s a great opportunity for us to combine our strengths and work together to accomplish a goal. Plus, there’s just something inexplicably romantic about getting lost with your significant other, in no rush to find your way or to be found.

Dinner and Sunset

One of our favorite fall activities as a couple is grabbing some takeout and driving up the canyon to see the fall leaves. We like to sit on the tailgate of our truck and eat our dinner as we watch the sunset. Affordable, romantic and beautiful all at the same time.

ATV Riding

Favorite fall activity is definitely ATV Riding. It’s the best time to go riding not just because of the activity, but also because the weather is usually very accommodating. ATV riding requires a lot of safety gear, like long sleeve shirts, helmets, long pants, and usually heavy duty boots. This can get warm really quick. But with cooler weather rolling in, it can really help balance out the discomfort of the heat from the outfit, with the cool breeze of the fall. Besides, going fast is more fun with dryer trails, and less worry about getting stuck!

Van Life

The arrival of fall signals cooler nights, shorter days and reminds us to make the most of our time outdoors. Thinning event calendars give us a chance to catch our breath, refocus and explore new activities. This is the perfect moment to slow down, connect with nature and our loved ones. At Siesta Campers, Portugal’s leading campervan hire company, we’re a bit spoiled. With over 300+ sunny days per year and what is essentially 9 months of summer, our fall is not like everyone else’s fall. That being said, adventurous families, couples or individuals should consider adding ‘vanlife’ to their list of fall activities no matter where you are. Camping in a campervan offers many benefits over a tent. Amenities such as a comfortable bed, thermal and sound insulation, kitchen, toilet and even shower remove many of the challenges that come with camping trips leaving you to enjoy where you are and who you’re with. Sharing a compact space with a partner is a great way to see one another from a different perspective, to add a bit of spice and spontaneity into the mix and break from routine. This fall, slow down and go wild.

Hike

Hike: Whether you’re looking for a long hike or something shorter, there are plenty of options across the country that will give you an opportunity to spend time together while getting some exercise and enjoying nature.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch: Pick out pumpkins at a local farm or patch and then head back home to carve them into jack-o’-lanterns. You can use this as an opportunity to teach each other how to carve pumpkins or just sit back and enjoy watching each other do it.

Go to a Wine or Cider Tasting: It’s hard not to fall in love with autumn when you’re sipping hot mulled cider and exploring lush vineyards.

Go Apple Picking: Apple picking is another great way to enjoy being outdoors while spending quality time with your partner. You’ll find apple orchards in most states, so look for one near you!

Farm Events

Little farm events are the perfect couple’s activity in the fall. Pumpkin or apple picking, corn mazes, and haunted houses are very exciting because they get the adrenaline going and there’s lots of physical activity. Moreover, these fall events and festivals are around only for a limited time, making them even more charming.

Visit a Nearby Town or City

To enjoy a day vacation or weekend retreat, you don’t need to travel very far. Choose a location that neither of you have been to before, and enjoy exploring. The itinerary can even be used to create a road trip by connecting a few destinations.

Enjoy a Picnic (and Jump in Some Leaves)

Although you probably picture summer picnics when you think of picnics, fall picnics are really where it’s at. Place yourselves close to some beautiful fallen leaves and open your thermos-contained refreshments, such as hot apple cider and marshmallow-topped chocolate, hearty soup, and crusty bread. Afterward, for a touch of youthful nostalgia, you can burn off your dinner by jumping in a pile of leaves.

Pumpkin Patch

Fall is the season of pumpkin spice, comfy sweaters, spooky fun, and… camping! That’s right, there’s no better time to pack up your RV and take a trip than when the weather gets chilly and the leaves start to change. Here are a few fun, RV friendly Fall activities to help couples make memories on the road that will last a lifetime.

A corn maze is another exciting Fall activity that will give you and your significant other hours of entertainment! A lot of corn mazes feature different paths, with varying levels of difficulty.

Between Oktoberfest, Renaissance Fairs and Halloween festivities, Fall is FULL of great festivals. They are easy to stop in while you’re traveling. Often offering food, music and family fun, you and your significant other can get a good feel for the area you are traveling through.

Would it really be Fall without a Pumpkin Patch? Easy to come by and stop through on an RV trip, you and your partner will have a blast walking through a pumpkin patch. And not to mention, you can take the perfect Fall photos! You might even want to take some pumpkins with you to carve a classic Fall Jack-O-Lantern!

Local Special Events

Fall is one of the best seasons for couples activities. Depending on the area you live in, there should be a variety of activities like corn mazes, pumpkin patches, haunted hay rides, and local special events. Look for things like pumpkin trails or Halloween themes at bars like “The Spookeasy” at Nights of the Jack in Calabasas, California or The Cauldron in Buena Park, California. We also enjoy a good weekend getaway at a cabin in the woods to admire Fall foliage or go apple picking. In California, places like Julian, Idyllwild, Oak Glen, and Big Bear Lake are great for these sorts of getaways.

Try New Recipes

When the weather is bad and you’re stuck at home after the warmth of summer disappears and the fall wind chill starts to kick in, there is no better time to try out new recipes!

The great thing about cooking/baking is that it can be ok to do on your own, but it is much more fun to do with your partner, and it can be quicker – unless you get into a mini food fight, which can be fun too!

Plus, the fall and winter months are seemingly the best months to make comfort food – meatloaf, cookies, soup, pie and more. The extra layers of clothes you will be wearing will help you pack away some more calories guilt free

Festivals

There are a number of fantastic festivals happening annually around the world, but some of the most vibrant and fascinating happen during the fall season. For example, some of the most iconic worldwide festivals during fall include the floating lantern festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand and Diwali, the Festival of Lights, which is celebrated across India.

Visiting a Vineyard

Visiting a vineyard is undoubtedly one of the best activities to do during the fall season. As this is the period in which most vineyards begin their grape harvest, you’ll be making your visit during one of the most exciting times of the year for these establishments.

Fall Foliage

One of the best things about fall? Fall foliage! A fun activity to do with your partner is to see the turning of the leaves in action on a hiking trail. It’s a great way to do a digital detox and connect with nature too.

Choose a hike together that makes the most of fall foliage. Popular examples could be Breakneck Ridge Trail in Beacon, New York or Maroon Bells in Aspen, Colorado.

Alternatively, if your state experiences all four seasons, look around your local area for woodland walks and forest views. You’re bound to see some pretty colours wherever you go.

Bundle up and spend a romantic day with your loved one in the crisp cool air, hiking under a canopy of burnished bronze, yellow and fiery orange leaves. Bring your camera to get some pretty shots too.

You could make the day more special by packing a flask of hot chocolate or even hot toddies for the trail. Remember to drink responsibly if you do!

Apple Picking

Something my girlfriend and I love to do in the fall is go apple picking with friends.

There are plenty of orchards all around the country where you can go and pick the biggest and juiciest apples. Bonus points if you know your way around the kitchen as you can use them in delicious fall-themed recipes – and apple bobbing at Halloween.

If you do go, always try and go early to have the best pick of the apples. It’s fun to see who can find the biggest ones and even joint chef any apple recipes in the kitchen afterwards. A full day and evening of fun.

Bike Rides

Bike rides are one of the most perfect fall activities. It’s not so hot that you’ll get overheated while riding but it’s still warm enough to enjoy. You’ll be able to bike around and enjoy all of the beautiful autumn scenery with your spouse! Riding through the leaves is my favourite thing to do, and if you ever fall it’s a reasonably soft landing.

Camping

Camping is a great activity to save for the Fall, and it can be fun and romantic when it is just couples. Better to go in the Fall when the weather is slightly more agreeable. Forget camping during the hot months and save it for the first few cool weeks of the Fall when you can really appreciate the warmth of a nighttime campfire. Just make sure you pack warm enough clothes, if not you can snuggle and keep each other warm through bodyheat.

Ghost Tours

Despite Florida’s sunny reputation, there are a few destinations across the state that are famous for their haunted history – but most tend to be overrun with tourists and cheap thrills. For an under-the-radar spooky experience, head to beautiful Martin County, FL. The historic fishing village of Port Salerno was once the hub of South Florida’s commercial fishing industry, but has since developed into a popular entertainment district, sprinkled with working artist studios, waterfront seafood restaurants, and lively bars.

One of the best autumnal experiences for couples is tagging along with Port Salerno Ghost Tours. Their expert guides are quick to share the dark and shivery tales that still haunt the area to this day. During these bone-chilling tours, guests are introduced to the spirits of ancient Native Americans, plundering pirates, a phantom widow watching for lost seamen, and more. To connect with “the other side,” guests are equipped with professional instruments like electromagnetic field detectors, electronic voice phenomena (EVP) recording devices, and infrared thermometers – the same tools used on TV shows like “Ghost Hunters” and “Ghost Adventures.” The two-hour walking tours take place most Saturday nights throughout the year with equal emphasis on local history and paranormal activity.
