About

Hi Travellers,

Thanks for stopping by to get to know the team behind Terre Maroc.

Terre Maroc is a travel website founded by a group of unlikely friends, in terms of nationality and borders, who all share a love for exploring and helping others experience this extraordinary world we live in.

Our purpose is to help you take the leap and start traveling.

Because it’s better to try than to wake up one day wishing you’d traveled. There’s enough of that in the world, wishing you’d done something but never going for it.

Travel doesn’t have to be this huge thing. You just need to know where to start.

The world has never been as open as now, and travel has never been cheaper and more accessible.

So, if not now, when?

Maybe this backstory by one of our writers will inspire you.

From Phone Sales to Travel Writer

Growing up, my family didn’t travel. My parents had immigrated to the US from Morocco, and I was one of many siblings. A proper large immigrant family like you see in the movies. I didn’t take my first trip overseas until I was 18, and yes, it was with my entire family. That trip changed everything, and I got the travel tingles.

However, it wasn’t until many years later that I took my second trip, now riding solo.

After college, I got a job on a sales team and didn’t take time off for two years. I kept telling myself that I needed more money and that it just wasn’t the right time to travel.

I was utterly stuck in the work hamster wheel.

Until one day, something came over me and I just couldn’t go into work. I couldn’t take the pressure, the constant need to improve, and the competitive environment. I guess that’s what you call ‘burnout’ today.

So, I requested my first-ever time off and took a holiday to the only destination I’d ever been to. Fast forward six months, I’d quit my job and ventured on my third trip that lasted one year.

From there, there was no turning back.

Why Terre Maroc?

That second trip the former salesperson made travel writer mentioned previously, is where all of us behind Terre Maroc met. Given the country’s history with France and French influence, we combined the French with Moroccan.

In French

‘Terre’ means: Earth or land

‘Maroc’ means: Morocco

When we met in Morocco, we stayed at the same hostel. We were either taking a break from work, looking for adventures or traveling for years. What we had in common was a love for travel, a love for the nomad lifestyle, and a need for a break from everyday life.

We shared our stories, pitfalls, and travel tips with one another. The more we talked and spent time together, the more we realized how much we had to share.  After only a few days of exploring the area together, we decided we had something. If a group of five could learn so much from each other, there would have to be more people out there looking for this type of information.

That is how Terre Maroc came to be.

The people behind Terre Maroc

We are a group of people that met by chance in Morocco and became friends through our love of travel and the nomadic lifestyle.

Some of us are now full time travel writers or remote workers still living the nomadic lifestyle while others have planted roots in one location but continue traveling and chasing adventures.

Lyam, our US Moroccan and dedicated nomad, is a travel writer and blogger. Most of the year he spends travelling and exploring the most beautiful places this world has to offer. Every now and then he finds himself back in the US to visit his family.

Lady M, as we call her, is a skydiving instructor. She’s been on the most adventurous trips worldwide and loves to share the best places to travel to and how to travel on a budget.

Kaitlyn, a Pakistani born American, is our lover of secret places and hidden gems around the world. She loves libraries, magical forests, beautiful cafes, and history.

Tom is an English Gentleman that has now relocated to Australia. He loves surfing, hence the relocation, and sharing his travel tips, especially for people going down under.

Ichika is a Japanese photographer. She’s traveled a lot within Asia and has taken the most beautiful travel photos I’ve ever seen (totally unbiased). She loves to explore different cultures and food scenes in her mother-continent.
